A Group Exhibition on the occasion of the 120th anniversary of the birth of Mark Rothko (25/9/1903), the group exhibition The Art of Immersion in Contemporary Painting. Learning from Mark Rothko presents to the public the expressive possibilities of contemporary abstract painting, which draws its inspiration from the international Abstract Expressionist and his ability to create a sense of immersion of the viewer within the color field of the work. The exhibition opens on Wednesday, September 25, the great artist’s birthday, and runs until October 27, 2024. It includes works by 24 contemporary Greek and foreign artists, parallel activities, as well as the only book illustration that Rothko had undertaken, almost a century ago. Danae Stratou participated with the work Ice Squared (digital print on plexiglass 2013). An imagined landscape, at once familiar and alien. This print was created by deeply zooming in on a satellite image of a random spot of Antarctica’s icecap where the deep blue of the ocean touches upon the white of the surrounding ice-scape. The original image was created as a large floor piece, part of the installation Icesongs, La Verrière, Fondation d’enterprise Hermès, Brussels, Belgium (2010).
